I bought this case just prior to my deployment to Afghanistan and it worked out fantastic! This case fits perfectly in the issued assault pack. I also cut some of the foam out of the lid and was able to fit my iPad and external hard drive in the case with my 13 in MacBook Pro. I recommend this case for anyone deploying who wants to keep there stuff safe.

I was originally considering the Pelican 1470 (mainly because of the handle), but I finished up getting the 1090 because it’s thinner and lighter. It has plenty of room to fit my “travel kit” (iPad + Speck CandyShell w/ camera kit, PSPgo, portable amp/DAC + USB cable, earphones + case) and it was relatively simple to get them all to fit snugly with the Pick N Pluck foam. I was initially place off by the price, but in the end I feel the cost was justified because it allows me to protect and organize my expensive gadgets when I’m on the go. A handle would have been nice, but it’s something I can live without.

    Some side notes:
    - I read some complaints that the latch is hard to open, but it opens pretty easily if you push down on the case near the latch while opening (which is in the instructions). This means you’ll need a solid surface to set it down on.
    - It took me a small while to figure out if the case comes with a black or silver latch because websites seem to use pictures of the two interchangeably. The black case has a black latch while the gray case has a silver one.
