This Toshiba has a very annoying habit of making a DVD drive start up noise. The drive will make this noise approximately every 5-7 minutes. The computer doesn’t need to be doing anything special when this happens either. I can’t relate it to any specific procedure that I do. You can be surfing the internet and there’s the noise. You can be type a Word document and there’s the noise. I thought it might be because I didn’t set up a backup yet and the computer might be searching for a disc to backup to, but after making a backup on an external hard drive, the noise did not stop. I called Toshiba tech support on the 1st laptop and clarified the symptoms to the guy and he told me to return the laptop to Amazon.com because it sounded like a terrible DVD drive. I returned the laptop to Amazon and requested a replacement and what do you know! SAME THING!! I picked Toshiba because Consumer Reports rated them the best for laptop reliability but maybe this model is just a lemon. Very disappointed with this model for this reason alone. Oh, and it’s not like this DVD is silent either. I have 2 Acer laptops and neither of them have as much noise from the drive as this Toshiba. So it is a noisy constant aggravation. Please be warned. I reckon I will return this laptop to Amazon and try another brand all together. Other than that, the laptop is excellent, excellent screen, excellent quick wireless, not too much crapware, only 1 partition on the hard drive, doesn’t run hot. So like I said, for me it’s certainly a deal buster.

I recently bought this laptop for my business (which is primarily writing and researching). I use primarily MS Word and PowerPoint – and for those uses it works fine. BUT – too much multi-tasking slows the thing down to herky-jerky response because the clock time is so slow. If you watch a lot of videos on YouTube, avoid this one. Even multi-tasking MS Word with Internet searches on a variety of search engines is a frustrating activity. I can’t imagine the frustration level for a person who tried to use this for gaming.

This is my fourth TOSHIBA laptop and I liked all the others. But this one is a small lacking.
